Allbohus Fastighets AB in Alvesta kommun invests in preventative measures to ensure clean water

Water contaminated with bacteria such as Legionella and E. coli can cause severe problems and serious illnesses. For this reason, Allbohus Fastighets AB, a public housing company owned by Alvesta municipality, has opted to install FM Mattsson connected showers with the Watersprint water purification system in several schools, to prevent contamination and ensure good water quality.

Alvesta Municipality has no contaminated water at present. To prevent the risk of such problems occurring in the future, Allbohus decided to invest in ensuring safe, clean water in the municipality, which has around 20,000 inhabitants. In June 2020, they installed FM Mattsson connected showers with UV LED water purification technology in several schools in the municipality.

Ensuring high-quality water for inhabitants
– Big problems are being caused in the world today by fast-spreading viruses and illnesses. We recognise the importance of preventative measures and want to do what we can to maintain the high quality of water that we enjoy today. This matter is crucial, and we want to show that we take it very seriously,” says Lars Andersson, Property Manager at Allbohus. He is responsible for residential premises, as well as organisational premises such as preschools, schools and elderly homes in the Municipality. He continues:

The problems municipalities have experienced in the past with contaminated water might have been prevented by taking safety measures. That’s why we’re taking preventative action to ensure a supply of high-quality water for all children and teenagers in our schools. I previously worked as a pipelayer, so water and sanitary systems are an important issue to me, and many of us see this investment as crucial.

Tronic Compact mixers and Tronic shower panels from FM Mattsson will initially be installed in two schools, but the plan is to also install them in care homes for the elderly. There are five large elderly care homes in the municipality, and Lars hopes that systems with safe tap outlets will be installed in all of them in the future to guarantee clean water.

It is great to get involved early in a project and to be able to work preverntatively with sustainable solutions. We have had a very good collaboration with Allbohus and it will be interesting to follow their work and see how our units can facilitate their everyday lives, says Ronny Karlsson, Key Account Manager at FM Mattsson, says Ronny Karlsson, Key Account Manager at FM Mattsson.

Testing revolutionary technology
The Watersprint water purification system uses UVC light to destroy the molecules in the microorganisms every time the pipes are flushed through, which effectively kills all types of viruses and bacteria. Water treatment using UV LEDs is a new innovation based on Nobel Prize winning technology.

– If you don’t try out new technology, you can’t evaluate it. As a municipally owned company, we exist for the public good. This means we serve as ‘guinea pigs’ to some extent – in this case by piloting the new UV LED technology. Of course we also have to deliver profits, but our main mission is to serve the community and the public good, says Lars about the new technology.

Connected mixers monitor the system
In addition to the water purification system, connected showers will also be installed. Tronic WMS connected mixers provide a digital overview of user patterns and water use, which helps to optimise maintenance and service. These mixers can also be used to set maximum temperatures and carry out automatic hygiene flushing. If a fault occurs, the mixers automatically send an alert by SMS.

With regard to ventilation, heating and water, we have everything connected to a master system. This allows us to check for operational disruptions and quickly detect any problems. We mainly aim to use the connected mixers to monitor the water purification system. Rather than just installing it and saying we’ve solved the problem, we want to be able to monitor and evaluate the system, Lars explains.
